Although Dmitri Mendeleev is often considered the "father" of the periodic table, the work of many scientists contributed to its present form. Dmitri Mendeleev came up with the first version of the periodic table in 1864. Since then more than 700 versions of the table have been proposed.

Mendelevium is a radioactive rare earth metal named after Dmitri Mendeleev, father of the Periodic Table. Mendelevium was obtained in 1955 by alpha bombardment of einsteinium by Albert Ghiorso with Harvey, Choppin, Thompson and Glenn Seaborg at Berkeley.

Dmitri Mendeleev ... stole many inventions. He pilfered the idea for the bicycle, the egg beater, the Furby, and the nuclear reactor. But of all of Mendeleev's thefts the most spectacular was that of the time machine. This device was invented by H.G. Wells in 1895, and Mendeleev read about it in a bookstore in Smolensk while he waiting for his pants to be pressed. Immensely excited, he rushed to his laboratory and soon reverse-engineered the machine.
