In celebration of 50 years of Disneyland magic, The Walt Disney Company inducted the 2005 "class" of Disney Legends for their roles in creating the company's treasure trove of entertainment, particularly their part in creating "The Happiest Place on Earth." Today's 10:00am ceremony was presented in the Main Street Opera House at Disneyland. Following the awards presentation the honorees participated in a hand-print ceremony.
The Ward Kimball is the first steam engine added to the Disneyland Railroad in 47 years. It is a salute to legendary Disney animator Ward Kimball (1914 – 2002) whose credits include such film classics as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, The Three Caballeros, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Kimball was an avid train enthusiast who helped get Walt Disney actively interested in backyard steam railroading, beginning with a visit to the Chicago Railroad Fair in 1948. Kimball’s passion extended all the way to having a full-size steam train layout in his backyard dubbed the Grizzly Flats Railroad.

In 2006, Walt Disney Imagineering will give both versions at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom major overhauls to coincide with the release of the second movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Both storylines will be completely dismantled and replaced with storylines involving Captain Barbossa (from the first movie) and Davy Jones (from the second and third movies) leading separate searches for Jack Sparrow through the many scenes of the original attractions. The "Hurricane Scene", the "Crews Quarters Scene", the "Captains Quarters Scene" and the "Treasure Scene" at Disneyland will all be unchanged visually except for a few new props used in the movies. The Disneyland ride will receive its official re-opening at the world premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which will ... be held at Disneyland. [3]

Disneyland Auction The very first Submarine Voyage ride opened in Disneyland in June of 1959, the same day that The Matterhorn and The Monorail opened. Submarine Voyage was a replacement for the less popular Phantom Boat Ride, which consisted of gasoline powered boats that often stalled, leaving visitors stuck in the middle of the lagoon. Walt Disney believed that earth’s oceans were the “Last Frontier” so he proposed the idea of a voyage through liquid space at Disneyland.
The new attraction joins an incredible array of new innovative adventures and astonishing entertainment premiering at Disneyland during its 50th anniversary "Happiest Homecoming On Earth" celebration, launching May 5, 2005. Other highlights include the fun-filled and interactive "Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters" inspired by a Walt Disney Pictures presentation of a Pixar Animation Studios film, "Toy Story 2," in Tomorrowland, the re-launch of "Space Mountain," "Remember . . . Dreams Come True," (the biggest fireworks spectacular in Disneyland history), and the energetic "Block Party Bash" where Disney presents the Pixar Film Pals at Disney's California Adventure.
