Walt Disney founded the animation and entertainment empire which still bears his name. He began as a cartoonist in the 1920s, creating Mickey Mouse and eventually moving from short films into much-acclaimed animated features like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and Bambi (1942). Later Disney expanded into live-action features like Treasure Island (1951) and then into television -- the family-friendly variety program The Wonderful World of Disney was a prime-time staple from 1954-83. During Disney's life his studios won 48 Academy Awards. In 1955 Disney opened a theme park, Disneyland, in Anaheim, California; it was an immediate hit and became the public flagship of the Disney empire. Other Disney theme parks have since opened in Florida, Tokyo, France and Hong Kong.

That is ... a hurdle in the minds of talent, though Disney has managed to attract key players to its projects. Actor Rick Moranis, for example, who has a thriving big-screen career, took the risk of appearing in the " Honey" video. He figures that made-to-video films may soon become a regular outlet for actors who aren't regulars in the big budget " event" movies the studios now favor. And he says that other actors " are impressed that it took only five weeks to shoot and it moved very quickly and wasn't a boring experience like film-making can be."

Kimball first came to the Disney Studios in 1934, when his interest in Mickey Mouse shorts led him to apply for a job there. Following a stint as an animator on "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," he developed the character of Jiminy Cricket for "Pinocchio," and was then promoted to animation supervisor on "Dumbo," "Fantasia," "Saludos Amigos," "The Three Caballeros," "Alice in Wonderland," "Cinderella" and "Peter Pan."
