Disease: Disease Management
built 642 days ago
Disease management, a system of coordinated health care interventions and communications for chronically ill populations, relies on patient education and case management to engage individuals in the management of their condition. Disease management ... aims to enhance the quality of interactions between doctors and patients and advance evidence-based medicine. Because these programs’ interventions frequently include helping individuals who suffer comorbidities associated with obesity to reduce their BMI, adaptation of disease management to populations with obesity seems a viable option. A major barrier for implementing disease management for obesity, however, is the lack of proven return on investment, which limits health plan and disease management organization interest. Purchaser demand may overcome this reluctance. Further research is needed to objectively test whether disease management interventions would be clinically effective for obese populations, produce positive financial outcomes for insurers, and enhance workplace productivity.
Disease in turfgrasses, as in other plants, develops from an interaction among a susceptible plant, a disease-producing organism (pathogen), and an environment favorable for disease development. Susceptible grasses and pathogens (usually fungi) are present in all lawns. In most cases, the pathogens exist in a dormant or saprophytic (feeding on dead or decaying substances) state and do not attack living plants. Diseases occur when environmental conditions (weather, management, and / or site conditions) become favorable for the build up of pathogen populations and / or cause an increase in the susceptibility of the plant. When this happens, turfgrass loss can occur.

Because of his fame with European royalty, Peyronies Disease is named after Francois Gigot de la Peyronie, 18th century French physician and surgeon. Peyronie's disease (PD) remains a therapeutic dilemma for the urologist. Despite a myriad of medical therapies proposed for PD there have been limited advances in oral medical treatment. Several new approaches are presented which hold promise of success, although a definitive medical therapy for PD has yet to be established. Since early stage disease is reputed to respond better than well-established plaques, an early trial of inexpensive, safe and well-tolerated oral therapy is often initially recommended. This review discusses the historical aspects as well as contemporary oral medical therapy for PD. With advances in the molecular biology of inflammation and wound healing, the management and understanding of this frustrating disease will no doubt improve.(1)
