Sure enough, DirecTV's offering of HD locals in Cedar Rapids / Waterloo, IA area is official. Rest assured, they won't be taking that newfound CBS, NBC and FOX HD (ABC is officially missing in the press release) joy from you Iowans. But wait, there's more! Dropping the trifecta, DirecTV continued its HD local rollout with announcements for Wichita, KS and Louisville, KY as well. Louisville gets treated to all the majors: ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX. Meanwhile, those of you in the Wichita market might be asking yourselves where NBC got off to; but take some time to enjoy the ABC, CBS and FOX affiliates flowing into your sets now.

Continuing its drive to lead the industry in the delivery of HDTV to consumers, DIRECTV named 14 more markets where it will offer local HD programming later this year. When the markets are added, DIRECTV will offer local HD programming in 50 major metropolitan areas, representing more than 65 percent of U.S. TV households. The rollout is scheduled to begin in the third quarter.

NBC HDTV programming may be available in select markets to some DIRECTV customers who have HD equipment and a TOTAL CHOICE® programming package or the DIRECTV HD Package. The NBC HDTV programming currently available for eligible customers is from either WNBC (New York) or KNBC (Los Angeles), depending upon your geographic location.
