Dink
built 642 days ago
Moby Dink's construction is of the old fashioned nailed-together type, and anyone who has built a shoe box in high school shop can handle it. All panel shapes and bevels are defined in the drawings. The sides are cut to shape, bent around the center frame, and the end transoms are nailed in place. The wales and chines are installed and the bottom is fitted and trimmed like a pie crust and nailed in place. There is no lofting required and no construction jig need be built. Two sheets of 1/4" plywood will make all her plywood parts, including the sail rig parts. A pattern for sewing your own sail is ... given on the plans.

Dink released one self-titled album... mostly self-produced, in 1994 on Capitol Records. The album featured one song produced by Skinny Puppy's Dave "Rave" Ogilvie. The song "Green Mind" was a hit, featuring some play on MTV and in the films Fear and Double Dragon, and reached #1 on the alternative dance charts. The band's next two singles, "Angels" and "Get on it" also topped the alternative dance charts, repeating the chart success of "Green Mind." Dink toured briefly with bands such as Pop Will Eat Itself, KMFDM and Lords of Acid to further promote their debut.

Told from a humorous perspective in vivid detail, Dink-Gadink boldly takes the reader inside the hallowed walls of the U.S. Naval Academy. It depicts the hilarious and mischievous escapades of Homecoming week, leading up to a climactic football game against Air Force on Saturday. Finally, on a lazy Sunday morning, it reveals a priceless lesson about the true meaning of real-world friendships that are formed in a crucible like the U.S. Naval Academy. Dink-Gadink is as close as any reader will ever come to actually being a Midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy.

A revival of the Winky Dink concept was attempted in 1969. It was paid for and produced by Standard Toykraft, a Brooklyn-based toy company which had produced all the kits way back in the fifties. Rembrandt Films and animation producer Fred Calvert did 65 five minute color cartoons for syndication. Around the same time, consumer groups began questioning affects of TV tube radiation. TV sets in the 50s and 60s had no federal manufacturing standards and might or might not produce radiation. These consumer groups were urging viewers not to get too close to their TV sets.
