Digivolution is the process by which a Digimon "ages"[1] and grows up into larger and more powerful forms. Although the word "Digivolution" comes from the phrase "Digital Evolution", Digivolution is in fact more similar to metamorphosis in that Digivolution changes a Digimon from one form to another (which can sometimes be very different in appearance) very quickly.

Digimon: Digital Monsters premiered on August 14, 1999. The show is about a group of seven kids at a summer camp who are mysteriously transported to another reality. There they are befriended by a group of strange creatures who call themselves "Digimon," short for digital monsters. The seven companion Digimon transform into larger digital monsters and fight as a team to defend the kids from a giant red beetle Digimon and save File Island.
