Digimon hatch from eggs called Digi-Eggs/Digitamas. (In the English language iterations of the franchise there is another type of Digi-Egg that can be used to Digivolve, or transform, Digimon. This second type of Digi-Egg is called a "Digimental" in Japanese.) They age via a process called "Digivolution" which changes their appearance and increases their physical powers. Some Digimon act feral, like wild animals. Most... possess human intelligence, speech, and personality traits.

Each digidestined child has a Digimon partner who protects them and gains power from them. The Digimon (bar Gatomon) are all in-training Digimon when the kids first meet them, but soon digivolve to Rookie in order to save them. They usually stay in Rookie stage but through the facilitation of digivices and crests, can digivolve to higher levels, usually when their partner is in danger.

Digivolution Points determine what Digimon you will get when you digivolve in the future. The only way to get DP is through DP Up item or the old fashion DNA Digivolution. DNA Digivolving is better and makes your Digimon stronger.

It is currently said that Pokémon, being only able to say their name, are the retarded hell spawn of Digimon. Digimon speak fluent english, Digivolve and De-Digivolve (it is unclear whether this is actually a good thing, seeing as one can morph back into a pile of unidentifiable muck while fighting a huge clawed thingy), and can look after themselves. The opposite of Pokémon. Scientists are researching this now, and current evidence shows that they are Drinkers and Drug addicts. They think their research will be done by 2099, at least.
