Digestion: Foods

Digestion is the way that an organism changes a substance into nutrients. This happens in the gastrointestinal system. Humans start digesting food in the mouth. Food is chewed by the teeth. Food is swallowed, which means it goes through the oesophagus. It goes into the stomach, where it is mixed with acid.
Digestion is the process of metabolism whereby a biological entity processes a substance in order to chemically and mechanically convert the substance for the body to use. Preparation for digestion begins with the cephalic phase producing saliva and enzyme production. Mechanical and chemical digestion occur in the mouth and stomach; food is chewed, and mixed with saliva in the mouth, and further broken down through mechanical and chemical processing in the stomach. Absorbtion occurs in the stomach and gastrointestinal tract, and the process finishes with excretion.
Digestion begins in the mouth with the action of salivary amylase. The food material then progresses past the esophagus and into the stomach. A bolus (soft mass) of chewed food moves by muscular wave actions, called peristalsis, from the mouth to the pharynx, and then past the epiglottis that covers the larynx. The epiglottis closes off the air passage so that one doesn't choke. The cardiac sphincter prevents reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus.

Digestion begins in the mouth with the chewing of food (mastication). Mastication not only breaks down very large aggregates of food molecules into smaller particles and allows saliva and enzymes to enter inside the larger food complexes, but ... sets off a signaling message to the body to start the entire digestive process. Research has shown that the activation of taste receptors in your mouth and the physical process of mastication signal the neural (nervous) system. For example, the taste of food can trigger the stomach lining to produce acid, a process called the cephalic phase of digestion; therefore, your stomach begins to respond to food even before any food leaves your mouth.

Digestion Support is a 100% natural herbal supplement. It is an excellent formula for indigestion symptoms such as stomach irritation, loss of appetite, and resulting body weakness. Digestion Support blends Ginger lily and Inula racemosa in careful proportions with thirteen other regular and rare authentic herbs. This supplement restores the body’s ability to digest food by improving the health of stomach tissues and increasing the body’s digestive energy. It helps the body regain strength and support a healthy immune system.
Digestion is the process of breaking down food into molecules that cells can absorb. Carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, and fats are broken down into their smallest units (monomers) by digestive enzymes. These hydrolytic enzymes break chemical bonds through a reaction that requires water. Each hydrolytic enzyme is named after the substances it hydrolyzes. For example, carbohydrases break carbohydrates into single sugars (monosaccharides), proteases break proteins into amino acids, nucleases break nucleic acids into nucleotides, and lipases hydrolyze fats to fatty acids.
