Diddy Kong Racing (DKR) is Nintendo's big holiday title. That's actually quite surprising, since it was developed by Rare. It's ... surprising because DKR has little of the innovation that made Mario 64 the must-have game of last Christmas season. DKR does have some innovative qualities, but overall the game doesn't do much that Mario Kart hasn't done already.

In Diddy Kong Racing, you can go on Tracks or Adventure. Tracks is just going through all the tracks and in Adventure you have to collect all the balloons by coming first in the races. You can drive a car, hover or plane. You can play as Diddy, Krunch, Tiptup, Pipsy, Banjo, Conker, Timbre and one more. Four people can play. You can unlock other tracks where you each have to be the last one remaining, trying to get the other players out by hitting them with your power ups you get.
Click to View There are a million reasons why Diddy Kong Racing is worth your attention but probably one of the most notable is the fact that the game presents a brand new set of great multi-player diversions. Even if you've written the game off as just another Mario Kart clone, the diverse and satisfying multi-player games should still make you sit up and pay attention. Especially if you're already a Mario Kart owner who only plugs in the cart when friends are over. At the very least, you can look at Diddy Kong Racing as a whole new collection of tracks for you and your pals.

Diddy Kong Racing was great back in 1997, and it’s managed to hold up almost a decade later. The added content is nice for those who completely destroyed the original game, and those who’ve never played it will be surprised at its quality, depth, and longevity.

The best thing about Diddy Kong Racing is the selection of vehicles you have to choose from. Not confined to road-bound karts, players of DKR are treated to high speed races in agile planes, that have the mobility of the Starfox 64 Arwings; as well as the bouncy, bumpy splish-splosh of hovercraft racing, which is slightly reminiscent of the superb jet-ski competition in Wave Race 64.
