Diana Krall - From This Moment On Diana Krall is a significant figure in the Jazz field of music. Glad to hear something new from her. This is a great album. This is a tremendous buy from Overstock. Saves a trip to the music store.

The career sweep of contemporary jazz pianist and singer Diana Krall is nicely represented on this overdue 2007 compilation, THE VERY BEST OF. It's no accident that Krall's albums have enjoyed both critical and commercial success, to say nothing of the Grammys and other industry accolades they've garnered: the artist bridges traditional jazz with contemporary, giving standards a fresh polish that appeals to a modern sensibility while still honoring the original.
While there's no denying that jazz-pop star Diana Krall's movie-star good looks went a long way toward endearing her to mainstream America, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Just as undeniable are Krall's gifts as a pianist and singer. Far from a crass populist, she's a subtle, nuanced performer who approaches her craft with an excess of skill and knowledge. This is apparent from the very beginning of THE LOOK OF LOVE, when Krall tackles the overly familiar Gershwin chestnut "S'Wonderful" not the way countless jazz singers have done in preceding decades, but in a style influenced by Joao Gilberto, who recorded the tune years before in a simmering bossa nova mode. This marriage of canny craft and artistic inspiration is repeated again and again throughout the album. Most of the songs here have been trotted out countless times by Krall's contemporaries and (especially) predecessors, but her thoughtful phrasing and low-key dynamic shifts match her unhurried, pastel piano style on each tune to bring out something special at the song's core.

180536_CD Diana Krall - Only Trust Your Heart With her pre-bop piano style, cool but sensual singing, and fortuitously photogenic looks, Diana Krall took the jazz world by storm in the late-'90s. By the turn of the century she was firmly established as one of the biggest sellers in jazz. Her 1996 album ALL FOR YOU was a Nat "King" Cole tribute that showed the singer-pianist's roots, and since then she has stayed fairly close to that tradition-minded mode, with wildly successful results.

Having methodically built a career as a formidable pop-jazz traditionalist who suggested a hybrid of Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall seemed poised to coast for decades recording tasteful albums of standards. But recently Ms. Krall, the Canadian singer and pianist, made the kind of break with the past that few performers of her stature would dare.
Krall's prodigious talents landed her a scholarship at the Berkelee College of Music in Boston. After three years of rigorous study, she started singing in Los Angeles. In 1990, she moved to New York and began recording fully mature albums in rapid succession. Krall's soothing, knowing voice, curious rhythmic stylings, and lyrical melodies made her a quick fan favorite.
