In the game, Detective Conan: Legacy of the Great Empire, you’re already turned into a kid and you’re expected to have some idea about the series. The adventure starts off with Kogoro, Conan and Ran together traveling to a small island town, similar to a mini Venice. When they arrive at a mansion they are just in time to witness a murder and of course it’s up to the team, mainly Conan to solve it. Before you start searching for clues, the game starts out with a rather lengthy scene where you’ll be introduced to all of the possible suspects. Then you get a chance to look for clues and progress in the case, then you’re back to another cut scene. Much like an old school adventure game you move back and forth from controlling Conan to watching the story.

Like all previous Detective Conan titles, Saikou no Aibou plays out as a traditional spite-based adventure that mixes comedic cut scenes from the television show with events from the game. For the first time in the franchise's history, this third game incoporates 3D polygonal backgrounds as well. Released in Japan only.

None of the other Detective Conan games have been released outside of the US, but maybe this could change with the Wii game. Recently Destineer has been picking up anime licenses. They got Fullmetal Alchemist which Funimation holds the rights to and they might have picked up the rights for Samurai Deeper Kyo games. Since Funimation holds the rights for Case Closed in North America there is a remote chance Detective Conan: Tsuioku no Gensou could come out.

Before he becomes Detective Conan, the main character is known as Shin’ichi Kudo, the son of a famous detective writer who idolizes Sherlock Holmes. He is ... a brilliant detective himself, despite his young age (he is in his 2nd year of high school). Over the course of the first episode, he solves a crime (this happens in every episode) and also interrupts what may be another crime. The criminals he interrupts dose him with an experimental drug that is supposed to kill him but instead… shrinks him so that he looks like a grade-schooler!

Detective Conan is actually a spinoff of an unfinished earlier work of Aoyama-sensei’s, Magic Kaito, the story of a phantom thief that ran for 3 full volumes before Aoyama-sensei turned his attention to Conan. Kaitou Kid, the star of Magic Kaito, has made numerous appearances in the newer series as an opponent for Conan.

Players control Conan in full 3-D action and detective skills are triggered by pressing on the four cardinal Dual Shock buttons. Items may be examined or handled, gadgets used, and characters spoken to. Conan has use of a skateboard which helps him travel long distances and darts which are shot at characters to send them to sleep and soccer balls which are kicked at obstacles to shatter them. To keep track of clues, a visual file may be opened to review evidence.
