The aim of descriptive essays is to provide a vivid picture of a person, location, object, event, or debate. It will offer details that will enable the reader to imagine the item described.
Descriptive essays are essays which contain detailed descriptions about something. When you need to describe a thing, a picture or an emotion, it would help to list the way you see, think and feel about the subject or topic. That is what descriptions are all about.

Descriptive writing should be exciting and intriguing. When you’re describing something, try to write it to somebody as if you were selling the idea of it or as if you would be paid if you convinced the person that they could actually imagine the subject of your descriptive essay via your description.
This entry consists of a series of descriptive essays on 13 city parks of exceptional noteworthiness. The parks are Alki Beach, the Arboretum, the Burke-Gilman Trail, Camp Long, Carkeek Park, Discovery Park, Golden Gardens Park, Gas Works Park, Green Lake Park, Lincoln Park, Seward Park, Magnuson Park (formerly Sand Point Park), and Volunteer Park. In these essays I describe the park's location, it's major and supporting features, any special characteristics which lend the park its own unique flavor, how to get there by public transportation, and if there are any decent local eateries or coffee shops in the area.
Aside from being a school assignment, writing such essays could win you prizes as well if you enter descriptive essay contests. Such contests are held regularly and you can get information about them on the internet. For practice you can get an example descriptive essay from a website and try to re-create the same description in your own words. This exercise will help you develop your descriptive powers.
