Dermatitis: Treatments

Once seborrheic dermatitis is under control, gradually use your medicines less and less. It may even be possible to stop the medicines completely, but usually occasional treatment is needed. Seborrheic dermatitis has a way of returning. If it does, resume the original treatment. If your seborrheic dermatitis is not controlled by the treatment prescribed, please return for further evaluation.
When using shea butter as a perioral dermatitis treatment, apply a moderate amount of Karite Gold to the areas of your skin that are affected by perioral dermatitis. After you have coated an area of your skin with shea butter, spend some time making sure that the shea butter works its way down under the surface of your skin. Move your fingers in a circular motion as you apply the shea butter.

Treatment of peri-oral dermatitis includes the use of an oral or topical antibiotic and an additional prescription medication for the skin. During the one to two months of therapy it is ... recommended that one avoid any fluoride toothpaste, mouthwash, or creams. Toothpaste without fluoride is difficult to find. Sensadyne without fluoride is one acceptable toothpaste.
ROSULA® Clarifying Wash(TM), a cleanser offered in an elegant formulation and large size, is indicated for the treatment of acne vulgaris, acne rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis. The product was launched by Doak in June of this year. A-FIL® Cream is an opaque SPF-25 dual barrier sunscreen that reflects and absorbs ultraviolet rays.
Topical antifungal drugs — The topical antifungal cream ketoconazole (NizoralĀ®) appears to be as effective as topical steroid for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. In cases of severe seborrheic dermatitis, treatment may include both topical glucocorticoids and topical or oral antifungal drugs.
Seborrheic dermatitis can be unpleasant and uncomfortable, and is usually unattractive. It can disappear spontaneously and suddenly reappear, for no known reason. Or it can stubbornly linger, resisting treatment. But as frustrating as it can be, it is readily diagnosed and is treatable.
