Dermatitis: Chronic Dermatitis
built 619 days ago
Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is not a skin allergy. Rather, DH is a chronic, extremely itchy rash consisting of papules and vesicles. Although it is often confused with skin allergies, it is actually associated with Celiac Disease (CD), a sensitivity of the intestine to gluten foods in the diet. CD is ... not a foold allergy, but rather a disease of the intestines.

Dermatitis can occur on just about any part of the body; ... in infants, dermatitis typically occurs on the forehead, cheeks, forearms, legs, scalp, and neck. In children and adults, dermatitis typically occurs on the face, neck, and the insides of the elbows, knees, and ankles. In some people, dermatitis may "bubble up" and ooze. In others, the condition may appear more scaly, dry, and red. Chronic scratching causes the skin to take on a leathery texture because the skin thickens (lichenification).
Seborrheic Dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory condition mainly affecting the area, where sebaceous glands are most numerous, such as scalp, around the nose, eyelash and eyebrow regions, the middle of the chest and the outer ear. The symptom is a red, itchy rash with greasy yellowish scales. It should be noted that Seborrheic Dermatitis is unrelated to seborrhea.

Atopic Dermatitis Dermatitis may be a brief reaction to a substance. In such cases it may produce symptoms, such as itching and redness, for just a few hours or for only a day or two. Chronic dermatitis persists over a period of time. The hands and feet are particularly vulnerable to chronic dermatitis, because the hands are in frequent contact with many foreign substances and the feet are in the warm, moist conditions created by socks and shoes that favor fungal growth.

The symptoms of hand dermatitis can range from a mild, itchy rash to severe itching, swelling, and blistering. In severe cases, open sores can result in bacterial skin infections. Irritant contact dermatitis usually affects the top of the hand, often appearing as dry, chapped skin around the knuckles and tops of the fingers. If caused by metals, the irritation appears under a ring. Allergic contact dermatitis ... usually appears on the top of the hand and around the fingers. Contact with a poisonous plant causes blistering and weeping, while other types of allergic contact dermatitis may cause a chronic skin rash.
