Despite his status as a Gold Glove winner, Jeter's defense has been the subject of criticism from a number of sabermetricians, including Bill James[10], Rob Neyer[11][12], and the publication, Baseball Prospectus[13][14]. The book The Fielding Bible by John Dewan contains an essay by James in which he concludes that Jeter "was probably the most ineffective defensive player in the major leagues, at any position."[15]
