Depression: Doctors
built 668 days ago
When someone is in the grip of depression they sometimes think about ending their lives. When talk like this arises it is best to divert the attention into other avenues and interests that will turn their minds away from wanting to die. You should then inform their doctor or mental health specialist of possible suicide intentions. By providing the information that the depression has taken a turn for the worse, you have provided the necessary depression help that will let the treatment be changed so that such suicide intentions fade away.
A doctor is usually able to diagnose depression from its signs and symptoms. A previous history of depression or a family history of depression helps to confirm the diagnosis. Excessive worrying, panic attacks, and obsession are common in depression and may lead the doctor to incorrectly think that the person has an anxiety disorder.

People with depression sometimes think about suicide. This thinking is part of the depression. If you have thoughts about hurting yourself, tell your doctor, friends or family, or call your local suicide hot line, such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
The assessment of a depression condition can be made in the first stage by a physician or family doctor. The second step will be to give your referrals on specialized help and where and how to get it.
Working with your doctor, you can learn to manage depression. You may have to try a few different medications to find the one that works best for you. Your doctor may ... recommend that you see a therapist and/or make certain lifestyle changes.

If you're having symptoms of depression, be sure to tell your doctor so you can get help. Don't expect your doctor to be able to guess that you're depressed just by looking at you. The sooner you seek treatment, the sooner the depression will lift.
