ENGLEWOOD - In a tight competition, the performance Denver Broncos safety Hamza Abdullah had Saturday morning could be invaluable. Abdullah made a few nice plays, including an interception, and drew the attention of cornerback Champ Bailey. “Hamza Abdullah probably had the best day of camp this year,” Bailey said. Abdullah and Curome Cox are battling to be the team’s top backup at safety. Sam Brandon had that spot for most of last year, but he was released because of an injured knee. Assistant head coach/defense Jim Bates said Cox and Abdullah are performing well.

In 2006 the Denver Broncos had high hopes among the league in being able to compete for the Super Bowl title. The Broncos defense started off the first five games of the season allowing only one touchdown, an NFL record, but struggled down the season stretch. Jake Plummer, the starting quarterback as the seasons' interception, led the team to a 4-1 record only to lose 4 straight and be replaced by rookie quarterback Jay Cutler, drafted in the first round out of Vanderbilt.
The Denver Broncos gradually improved through the 1970s and surprised the league in 1977 when they won a franchise record twelve games behind head coach Red Miller. The team captured its first-ever Western Division title with the AFC’s top defense, which was anchored by end Lyle Alzado, linebacker Randy Gradishar, and cornerback Louis Wright. Quarterback Craig Morton piloted a steady offense, and the Broncos advanced to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Dallas Cowboys. Denver made the playoffs the following two seasons but fell in the first round each time. During the 11 years following the strike-shortened season of 1982, Denver made 7 postseason appearances. As a rookie, John Elway led the team to a playoff berth in 1983 and to 13 victories in 1984.

Denver Broncos Tickets The Denver Broncos were only a tiebreaker away from reaching the playoffs this past season, and at the beginning of the season, they looked like they had what it takes to reach the big game. However a season filled with inconsistencies at the quarterback position caused this team to end up with a 9-7 record in the tough AFC. The Denver Broncos look promising once again, and have hopefully figured out their quarterback issues this season. The Broncos defense has looked good the past few seasons, and nothing has changed with Champ Bailey lining up against the opposing teams best wide receiver. Can these Denver Broncos make the playoffs this season, and make it to the SuperBowl? Only one way to find out!
