Other considerations make dentures a poor solution to missing teeth. Modern technology allows for an accurate fitting of dentures for each individuals mouth. Even with such advances, there is still a problem of denture slippage and discomfort.

As people age, their dentures dont change, but their mouths do. If you have false teeth, they should fit and you should be wearing them. Proper care and regular dental visits are important factors for keeping your mouth healthy and your dentures in good shape.

Upper dentures are a bit different. They are easier to wear because the suction in upper palate (roof of the mouth) helps keep the denture in place. But having the palate covered can ... reduce the taste of foods that you are eating. Sores and pain in chewing and talking are quite frequent as the gum tissue shrinks, and many people suffer from having to use dental adhesive with upper dentures as well.

If disease or injury are not too great, or if cost is not the most significant factor, there are perhaps better alternatives to dentures. These include crowns, bridges, implants, and full mouth rehabilitation. With current treatment options, the selection of dentures is becoming less common

Prolonged use of ill-fitting dentures can irritate the gums, tongue and cheek, and even cause the ridges of your mouth to shrink to the point where it will almost be impossible to fit you with normal dentures. Your ability to chew may decrease, and your face may acquire deep aging lines and wrinkles. When you look at the big picture, the temporary adjustment period isn't so bad.

Not all dentures are fabricated using the same materials or technique. The acrylic used for the pink tissue portion of a denture will shrink when it is processed and cause inaccuracies in the fit of the denture to your mouth. Thisshrinkage can cause sore spots and movement during eating and speaking.
