It is shocking that dental disease is the most common chronic childhood disease in this country, five times more common than asthma. Yet, dental disease is preventable through brushing, flossing, proper diet and nutrition, regular dental visits and access to fluoride and sealants.

Under the terms of the MOU, Laser Energetics received an order from Lantis Laser for an Alexandrite development laser, which will include a cost- effectiveness manufacturing study to tailor the compact laser for the dental market. The study and laser will be completed before the end of 2007. Laser Energetics' primary role will be development, engineering, and manufacturing of the new laser package, which will be funded by the Joint Venture.

The team has therefore developed an innovative software-based approach to detecting osteoporosis using routine dental x-rays, by automatically analyzing specific characteristics of the radiographic trabecular bone pattern. These features include, among others, the thickness, the amount of fragmentation, and the main orientation of the structure of the trabecular bone.
