Dennis Be warned that Dennis Miller's style isn't for everyone. And HBO's lack of censorship means his "Rants" can turn R-rated in a hurry. So if you're easily offended, "Live" may not be your cup of tea. unless it's the the chance to see it delivered in person.
Now when Miller lost Monday Night Football on ABC and Dennis Miller Live on HBO in 2002, MAD Magazine printed an article probably called "Career Advice for Dennis Miller": he could become a journalism professor, write political speeches, or other things. Of course, here in 2005, Miller still has Republican fundraisers, the occasional charity benefit, and NetZero commercials. He won't starve.
Dennis Miller Live Broadcast on HBO, his half hour comedy show, "Dennis Miller Live" has won five Emmy awards. It consists of his monologue ("The Rant"), followed by the week's guest and a segment where Dennis fields questions from call-in phoners, and closing with "The BigScreen", featuring Dennis doing the news his way:providing comic captions to accompany candid photos of the rich &famous.
There would be one guest per show live with whom Miller would discuss the topic of the day. During the first season, some guests were interviewed via satellite. During the guest segment, the show would ... take phone calls. The call-in number was originally given as 1-800-LACTOSE. Reportedly, Miller chose the word "lactose" because it was the only word he could make with seven digits to make it a vanity number. But starting in the 1997 season, he stopped using the word and simply gave the corresponding numbers.
Dennis Miller got his big break in 1985, when he was discovered doing stand-up at a Los Angeles comedy club by “Saturday Night Live” producer Lorne Michaels, who offered Miller the role of “SNL’s” Weekend Update anchor. Miller spent six successful seasons on “SNL” before leaving to pursue other comedic and film projects.
From 1988-1990, Mr. Miller was President and Chief Operating Officer of Think Entertainment, a cable production company owned by TCI, Newhouse and United Artists. Think Entertainment was founded by Shelly Duvall and was known for its innovative children's programming including the Peabody and Emmy Award winning Fairy Tale Theater. From 1984-1988, he was Founder and President of Access Syndication, a company that distributed live-action and animated programming to the television marketplace.
