On Monday, the last Delta Airlines flight to Salt Lake City, Utah, which had been running daily since January 2005, departed from XNA - at least for the foreseeable future. According to XNA administration, the decision by Delta was not made because of lack of passengers on the flight.

American Airlines and Delta Air Lines raised round-trip fares on flights within the continental United States by $20 to offset the cost of jet fuel, reported Reuters from Chicago. The increase came after other carriers raised fares in recent weeks, as the price of crude oil was setting new records. “Just since August, average spot market crude oil prices have risen by nearly $14 a barrel,” American parent AMR Corp. said. “That increase translates into more than $1 billion of additional annual expense (for) American.”

In 1990, Delta became the first U.S. airline to operate the MD-11 aircraft [13], leasing two from Mitsui. Delta operated 15 MD-11s. Delta's most dramatic expansion (at that time) came with its purchase of Pan Am's European routes in 1991 which included all north Atlantic routes except Miami to London and Paris, and the Frankfurt, Germany hub, after Pan Am declared bankruptcy. Delta Air Lines [W]ill begin nonstop service between Atlanta and Belize on December 11 2004. Delta will offer customers one round-trip, nonstop flight on Saturday only between its Atlanta hub and Belize using single-class, 150-seat Boeing 737 aircraft. Delta is ... increasing its service between Atlanta and Providenciales, Turks & Caicos, to year-round, daily service starting Sept. 15. The airline had previously offered seasonal, Saturday-only service to the city. Located on the Caribbean coast adjacent to Mexico and Guatemala, Belize is known for its tropical forests, mountains, Mayan temples, and scuba diving. Belize is home to the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere, and the people of Belize have protected approximately 40 percent of the country as parks and natural reserves.

Song began service on April 15, 2003 as a single-class airline operated by Delta to compete directly with JetBlue Airways from both airlines' hubs at New York-JFK. While the brand was considered a successful addition to the Northeast-to-Florida market, financially the airline suffered. As a result, on May 1, 2006, Song was folded in to the Delta mainline brand, and the "Song" entertainment system will remain in place on certain long-haul domestic flights. Additionally, all former "Song" aircraft have been reconfigured to accommodate 26 First/158 Economy passengers. These aircraft are now focused primarily on trans-continental flights from JFK and ATL. In 1929, Delta operates its first passenger flight from Dallas, Texas to Jackson, Mississippi carrying five passengers and one pilot. Today, Delta is the fourth largest US carrier and fifth largest world carrier. They fly to 417 cities in 73 countries.
