Delta Airlines: Delta Air Lines
built 632 days ago
Delta Air Lines is turning the Atlanta to Washington-Dulles market into shuttle service, effectively, on Aug. 1 2004. It will fly one flight per hour, and add four new flights. The airline currently flies 16 flights into Washington's Reagan National Airport, as well as 13 daily flights to Baltimore-Washington Airport. The new flights give Washingtonians a wider choice of airports for hourly service. The new flights to Dulles will depart at 15 minutes past the hour beginning at 7:15 a.m. from Atlanta, and 6 a.m. from Dulles. The flights will be a mix of Delta aircraft and regional jets flown by Delta Connection carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines.
A Douglas DC-7 in Delta livery Delta Air Lines is the only MD-90 operator in the Western Hemisphere,[67] although Reno Air operated the type for several years before being acquired by American Airlines and the type disposed. Initially, Delta had a large order for MD-90s to replace the Boeing 727 fleet. After McDonnell-Douglas was acquired by Boeing, Delta canceled its remaining MD-90s on order and ordered the longer-range Boeing 737-800 instead, but has hinted it may acquire some second-hand MD-90s (possibly from China Southern Airlines) for domestic expansion at Salt Lake City International Airport... freeing 737-800s for longer routes from Delta's other hubs.
Delta Air Lines Inc (DAL) opened at 18.15. So far today the stock has hit a low of 17.74 and a high of 18.65. DAL is now trading at 18.03, up 0.32 (1.81%). After hitting a one year high of 21.95 in April, the stock has been suffering lately, hitting a year low of 14.94 earlier this month. The company has selected Richard H. Anderson to replace its retiring CEO, a move that analysts believe will pave the way for potential mergers with other airlines. Analysts expect these mergers within the next year, as such ventures may have a harder time getting approval if Republicans lose control of the White House in 2008.
Delta Air Lines' [C]hief executive said on June 16 2004 it is "completely clear" the No. 3 U.S. airline cannot survive in its current form, as fare levels continue to erode despite an improving economy. Many analysts and industry experts have said Delta might have to file for bankruptcy to significantly cut costs. But CEO Gerald Grinstein said Chapter 11 would be used only if no other path were available. "While the situation is extremely serious and I cannot minimize that, the marketplace has just simply undergone a fundamental, structural and permanent change and we recognize it," he said at a transportation conference in New York. Low-cost competition in 70 percent of its markets and weak air fares have hurt Delta for a while. The financial picture worsened this year, Grinstein said.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — During a House of Representatives hearing on aviation congestion Thursday, Delta Air Lines Inc Chief Executive Richard Anderson told Congress he was surprised at reports that his airline was in discussions to merge with United Airlines. Responding to a merger question, Anderson said he has not spoken with United chief executive Glenn Tilton or "any other executive" at the carrier since he (Anderson) ran Northwest Airlines nearly four years ago.
Just as a delta is a symbol for change in math, Delta Air Lines symbolizes the changing mathematics of the airline industry. A leading US carrier, behind AMR's American Airlines and UAL's United Airlines, Delta emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2007. On its own and through its Delta Connection regional carriers (including subsidiary Comair), Delta serves about 310 destinations in more than 50 countries. It operates from hubs in Atlanta, Cincinnati, New York, and Salt Lake City. Delta extends its offerings as part of the SkyTeam code-sharing and marketing alliance, which includes carriers such as Air France, KLM, and Korean Air Lines, as well as Continental and Northwest Airlines.
