In the 1990s the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the leadership of Madan Lal Khurana came into power. However in 1998, Congress regained power. Sheila Dixit of Congress is the incumbent Chief Minister. The Congress retained power in the Legislative Assembly in the 2003 election as well by a large margin. However, in 2007, the BJP scored a crushing victory over the ruling Congress in the MCD election, signalling a near certain return to power in the elections of Dec, 2008.

Nightclubs -- Delhi has its fair share of nightclubs, though most play standard commercial music. The Other Side, downstairs at Turquoise Cottage (81/3 Adhchini, Sri Aurobindo Marg; tel. 011/2685-396), is not one of those, and draws a vibrant crowd. It has exposed brick walls decorated with an assortment of Western-inspired obsessions; one nook is dedicated to vintage cars, another is filled with Rolling Stones album covers, and still another is decorated with saddles. With its black walls and pink lights, Decibel (Hotel Samrat, Kautilya Marg; tel. 011/2467-5293 or -5294) in Chanakyapuri is a trendy nightclub with a large dance floor that draws a jet-setting crowd.

Delhi with the water bucket After a refreshing bath, Delhi made her way down the back alley which leads to the night yard, an 8-acre yard adjacent to the main habitat. She accessed the area and decided to go into the area where Tina used to spend all of her time when she was outside. Delhi walked all the way into the trees and started munching on the lush vegetation. She was in ele-heaven all day. As the sun was setting, Delhi settled in for a long nap. She is very comfortable with the move which allows her to be closer to her soon-to-be-found freedom, and the other elephants.
