With an estimated net State Domestic Product (SDP) of $ 95 billion as of 2005(INR) (for the year 2004–05),[46] Delhi is the second largest commercial center in South Asia after Mumbai. Delhi has a per capita income of 53,976 INR which is around 2.5 times of the national average.[46] The tertiary sector contributes 70.95% of Delhi's gross SDP followed by secondary and primary sectors with 25.2% and 3.85% contribution respectively.[46] Delhi's workforce constitutes 32.82% of the population showing an increase of 52.52% between 1991 and 2001.[47] Delhi's unemployment rate decreased from 12.57% in 1999–2000 to 4.63% in 2003.[47] In December 2004, 636,000 people were registered with various employment exchange programmes in Delhi.[47]

All parts of Delhi are well connected by buses and with tickets ranging from Rs.3 to 10 they're very cheap, but they're ... the least comfortable means of transport and the hardest to use. Delhi's buses are quite crowded, rarely air-conditioned and drivers often drive rashly. Bus routes are often written only in Hindi and bus stops don't have any route lists, so it can be difficult to find your way — asking other people at the bus stop is often the best way to find out about bus routes to your destination. Note: Bars and nightclubs in Delhi can be extremely popular for months, or even years, and then suddenly and inexplicably the crowds stop coming. All the establishments listed above have been popular for a significant period of time and are unlikely to turn into has-beens by the time you get there, but fads and trends guide people's movements, so it's best to ask around once you're there.

Connaught Place - This is the main tourist center in New Delhi. It is a large circle filled with banks, shops, restaurants, airline offices, and street vendors. Becareful of people offering you tourist packages and railway tickets -- most are scams. (see map below)
