Deborah Kerr: Scotland
built 641 days ago
Deborah Kerr In Photos Born in Helensburgh, Scotland in 1921, Kerr trained as a ballet dancer, began her acting career in regional British theaters and entertained the troops during World War II. Her first major screen role was in an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's "Major Barbara" in 1941.
Kerr was born in Scotland on Sept. 30, 1921. When she was a child, her family moved to England, where she studied ballet - her first stage appearance, at 17, was as a ballet dancer. But at 5 feet 6 inches, she was on the tall side for a dancer, and when she realized she didn't quite have the talent to become a prima ballerina, she switched to acting and began appearing in small roles on the London stage.
