Dean White practiced with the Washington law firms of Steptoe & Johnson and Caplin & Drysdale, where she specialized in tax. She has been on the faculty at several law schools, including the Georgetown University Law Center, the University of Michigan Law School and the University of Utah College of Law. While at Michigan, Dean White received the L. Hart Wright Outstanding Teacher Award. She was of Counsel to the Salt Lake City firm of Parsons, Behle & Latimer and the Detroit firm of Bodman, Longley & Dahling.

After his discharge from the army in 1953, Dean worked and traveled until he met and married Deloris Morrison Cameron, who had four children, Wayman, James (Bud), Shirley and Jean. Dean and Deloris had two children together, Janice (Jenny) and Catherine (Kathy) before divorcing in 1970. Dean later married Bonnie Peterson Key, who had five children, Steven, Sheri, Sharon, Sally and Susan. In 1986, Kimberly, a granddaughter, came to make her home with them. In 2001, Dean and Bonnie adopted a son, Lewis Dean Williams, now 13.

White replaces Dr. Jean Deller, who became dean of TSU’s School of Professional Studies in June. As Dean of Student Life, White’s new duties will include overseeing all functions and activities of the Office of Student Life, including housing and counseling services; facilitating campus events such as Summer Orientation and Registration, Fall Orientation, Family Day Weekend, Homecoming and Senior Banquet; and serving as an advisor to the Board of Trustees’ Student Life Committee.
