Though Stockwell has over 125 film and television credits to his name and successfully made the transition from child actor to adult star, fandom probably best remembers him as Rear Admiral Albert "Al" Calavicci on the quirky time travel TV series Quantum Leap.

During the 1940s Stockwell was a popular child actor, appearing with Abbott and Costello in Hollywood (1945) and in The Secret Garden (1949). His success continued into adulthood. Together withJason Robards and Ralph Richardson, he won Best Actor at Cannes for playing in Long Day's Journey into Night (1962); he'd formerly won the award for his performance in Compulsion (1959), shared with Orson Welles and Bradford Dillman. Stockwell came home to Hollywood in 1968, playing the attic-dwelling mystery man in the drug-addled Psych-Out with Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern. With only occasional disappearances he has worked steadily in films and television ever since. He played Harry Dean Stanton's brother in Paris, Texas, the deranged maniac at the heart of Blue Velvet with Kyle MacLachlan and Dennis Hopper, the Mafia boss in Married to the Mob with Michelle Pfeiffer, and the producer in Robert Altman's The Player. On TV, he played the cigar-chomping hologram alongside Scott Bakula in TV's Quantum Leap, and had recurring roles on JAG and the new improved Battlestar Galactica.

Quantum Leap: A Bold Leap Forward, is being developed as a TV movie and would feature Stockwell reprising his role as Al with Sam Beckett's daughter as a new leaper.
