Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball is a huge disappointment for sports fans, for role-playing fans, and for casino game fans. Tecmo is capable of delivering unique properties that offer new and exciting experiences, but with this game they are appealing to the lowest common denominator. There is an expression that beauty is only skin deep, which fits Xtreme Beach Volleyball to a tee. Those who purchase this game will soon discover the beautiful graphics are hiding a shallow, pointless game underneath. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball is a beach volleyball simulation video game by Tecmo released in 2003 for the Xbox gaming console. It is not a fighting game like the rest of the Dead or Alive series. However, it does not focus solely on playing volleyball. The game features a relationship system between the girls on the island whereby the player can induce one of the girls to increase her esteem toward the main character. Higher esteem toward the main character can translate into better performance from team members on the volleyball field. Other activities include buying swimsuits and accessories to customize your character and gambling .
Horror & Cult Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, billed as a "fantasy sports sim", sends you to the tropical paradise of Zack Island for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. When starting a new game you will select one of the eight female characters (Kasumi, Leifang, Lisa, Hitomi, Tina, Christie, Ayane and Helena). All of these ladies are returning from previous Dead or Alive titles with the exception of Lisa, who was crafted specifically for this game. She serves as the default partner for the other girls and provides a basic tutorial when you start a new game. At the end of a vacation the game will end, but you can simply start another vacation with all of your money, items and collectibles intact. The game has no traditional "ending" so you can continue to play indefinitely.
The former "main event" from Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, beach volleyball is once again present. Similar to the original, players must have a partner in order to compete in a two-on-two 7-point volleyball match. The gameplay has been modified to make the game slightly more difficult and to add variety. While there are still only two buttons necessary for gameplay (pass/block and bump/spike), greater manual control is required as, unlike the original, girls will not automatically maneuver themselves into the best formation. In the online mode, two players can compete against each other, each having a computer-controlled partner. The camera has been slightly modified to address the criticism that the one in the original game moved erratically or too frequently.
