Though there is no denying this game’s obvious attraction for members of the male persuasion, the $150,000 question is does DOAX give gamers a reason to play the game beyond simply goggling at well-endowed women as they play volleyball and the “bouncing game”? The answer to that all-important question is yes, but not much. While it is true that this game has a perfectly passable iteration of beach volleyball built into its design, the majority of your time can easily be spent doing other non-volleyball related activities. In fact, playing volleyball is completely optional. So it’s a good thing that the bulk of DOAX’s charm comes not in the form of its titled volleyball feature, but in building relationships with the other girls on the island, buying and giving gifts of girlish trinkets, accessories, and bikinis, listing to the lighthearted pop and reggae soundtrack, and gambling away your stash at the fully-featured casino at the end of every day.

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball (DOAX) is a beach volleyball game by Tecmo released in 2003 for the Xbox video game console. Showcasing the graphics capabilities of the Xbox, it received late-teen ratings in most regions for its depictions of busty women in skimpy bikinis both on and off the beach. Unlike the previous games in the Dead or Alive series, it is a sports game as opposed to a fighting game.

Like the graphics, the sound in Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball mostly gets the job done but falls a little short. Stylistically, the licensed soundtrack is composed mostly of pop songs, though there's a little reggae and ska thrown in for good measure. Christina Aguilera is the most recognizable name on the soundtrack, though other acts like Reel Big Fish, Big Mountain, and Bob Marley make appearances. Mercifully, the game allows you to use custom soundtracks. The sound effects are fairly generic and minimal. The slaps of hands hitting volleyballs are about as accurate as you'd expect, and there isn't much more than that.

The DOA girls are taken to new zack island, being told that the dead or alive 5 tournament will be held there. But it isnt, still they decide to stay build up a tan, have a good time stuff like that. During your 14-day vacation you can be any of the DOA girls (no new additions) and take part in around 8 games. From Volleyball and marine racing to butt battles and riding the water slide. At nights you can go to the casino to play various card games and the roulette and slot machines. The challenge of the game is to keep your partner (to play volleyball, you cant play on your own) and get all the swimsuits for your girl.

The New York Times looks at a new wave of racy videogames which flaunt "aggressive sexuality, salty language and off-color sight gags," including BMX XXX and Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball. But the tightly controlled licensing system for console games will prevent gamemakers from getting too wild. "Sony had second thoughts about releasing [BMX XXX] uncut for its PlayStation 2, the most popular game console. Alan B. Lewis, the spokesman for Acclaim, said that after discussions with Sony, the game's developers removed a function that allows players to design a female biker to appear topless. In addition, a BMX logo now obscures the breasts of the real-life strippers who appear when a player wins a bonus. So far the game remains unchanged for the Xbox and the GameCube."
