1. The Dead
   The Dead Sea is the saltiest lake in the world. It is called "dead" because the high salinity prevents any fish or other visible aquatic organism to live in its water. The high density of the water ... causes a curious phenomenon: it is impossible for a bather to sink. Its surface is the lowest point on Earth, at an elevation of 417 below sea level. A great place to observe the extend of the Dead Sea is the natural fortress of Masada, reached from the Dead Sea side by a steep trail of 450m elevation. After being the palace of Herod the Great, it was for 967 Jewish Zealots the last stronghold in their revolt against Rome, as it took 15,000 Roman men to build a ramp from the Western side of the plateau to eventually breach their defenses.
2. Day
   For the homeowner, Arbor Day is an excellent opportunity to take stock of the trees on your property and plan for the future. Inspect your trees. Note any broken branches or evidence of disease or insect infestation. Think about how planting new trees might improve the look of your property or provide wind or heat protection. Take a trip to your local nursery to see what's available and to get new ideas. Walk around your neighbourhood. Are there any public areas where tree planting or tree maintenance might make a real difference to your community? Talk with your neighbours. Find out what their opinions are. And, oh yes, plant a tree.
3. The Dead -- Dead Sea
   The Dead Horse was a ceremonial shanty sung at the end of a sailor's first month at sea. It was to celebrate the end of the sailor's debt to the ship - when he started working for himself.
4. The Dead -- Foods
   One of the big stories that the Daily Dead Fish Wrapper has been beating to death this past week is Ted Kulongoski's pledge to live off of food stamps for a week in recognition of Hunger Awareness Week. According to Teddy's press release, $21 is the average amount that a person living off of food stamps receives per week.
5. The Dead -- World
   This scene from the Book of the Dead of Ani reads from left to right. On the left Ani and his wife Tutu are shown playing senet, the board game that can ... be used a metaphor for a man travelling into the next world. In front of them both, on top of their white tomb stand their human-headed ba spirits next to one another. The two lions represent those of the horizon over whose backs the sun rises daily, whilst the bird standing to the right of the lions is the benu bird, the phoenix-like bird that represents the soul of the sun-god Re. Under the canopy, Ani's mummy lies on its bier, attended either side by Isis and Nephthys in the form of two birds.
6. Land of the Dead
   The survivors' only hope now is to lure the Permians into the house and burn it down, sending them back to the land of the dead. Monica, accepting that she must sacrifice three years of work and make a fresh start, helps to spread the polymer paint and other flammable materials about the house. The Permians arrive, and the Doctor acts as bait to lure them into the stone room. Tulung sets the corridor on fire behind them, and the Doctor clambers through the hole into the earth room, jams the door shut behind him and flees with his friends, trapping the Permians inside the blazing house. The monument burns to the ground behind them, putting an end both to Brett's obsession and to the Permians. Any remaining hybrids will soon die without the energy from the Permians to sustain their unnatural forms.
7. Samhain -- Dead
   Samhain is the third and final harvest, the harvest of meat. The Old King is dead, and the Crone Goddess mourns him greatly during the next six weeks. The sun is at its lowest point on the horizon as measured by the ancient standing stones of Britain and Ireland, the reason the Celts chose this sabbat rather than Yule as their new year. To the ancient Celts, this holiday divided the year into two seasons, Winter and Summer. Samhain is the day on which the Celtic New Year and winter begin together, so it is a time for both beginnings and endings.
8. Waking the Dead
   It's not quite as successful as Gordon's last film -- the underrated 1996 Kurt Vonnegut adaptation "Mother Night" -- but "Waking the Dead" definitely works. Crudup and Connolly are both unusual and unusually appealing young stars, the chemistry between them is potent, and their teaming creates a palpable sense of haunting, breathless romance.
9. Hades -- Dead
   Hades was the habitation of the dead, or shades. His name as ruler is Polydegmon, receiver of many guests because of the multitudes that streamed through the gates. Hades was a subterranean Zeus--chthonios, of the dark realm, as opposed to the cult of the sky god, hypsistos. Through Hades run the rives Styx, besides which the gods made their hallowed oaths, and Lethe, with its waters of forgetfulness. In the Odyssey these rivers are identified as the Pyriphlegethon and Kokytos (a tributary of the Styx), which flow into the Acheron.
10. Dead or Alive
    Plot Summary: In "DOA: Dead or Alive" four beautiful women begin as rivals in a secret invitation-only martial arts contest, but find themselves teaming up with one another against a sinister force. Tina Armstrong, played by Jamie Pressly is a superstar in the world of women’s wrestling. Christie, played by best-selling pop recording artist and actor Holly Valance, is a beautiful cat-thief and assassin-for-hire. Princess Kasumi, played by international fashion model and actor Devon Aoki, is an Asian warrior-aristocrat, schooled by martial arts masters. Helena Douglas, played by Sarah Carter, is an extreme sports athlete whose tragic past binds her to the remote palace in Southeast Asia where the Dead or Alive tournament takes place.
