Thanksgiving November The day after the Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday in November is popularly believed to be the biggest and the busiest shopping day of the year in the United States. The festive mood that starts with the Thanksgiving Day continues throughout December because the intense crowds begin their Christmas shopping from this day afterwards.
Indian Country Today reports:  The House of Representatives unanimously passed legislation Nov. 13, introduced by Rep. Joe Baca, D-Calif., that encourages the designation of the Friday after Thanksgiving as Native American Heritage Day. The Native American Heritage Day bill, H.J. Res. 62, encourages the establishment of a day to pay tribute to American Indians for their many contributions to the United States.
New Jersey governors have granted the day after Thanksgiving as an extra day off through a proclamation at least since 1962, according to the Rutgers University Library for the Center for Law & Justice. State law has never been changed to make it an official holiday.

Corzine insists he's not out to ruin anyone's day-after holiday plans. The no-nonsense businessman, a former chairman of the investment firm Goldman Sachs, says he just wants state offices open on a business day to serve taxpayers.
