With only a handful of credits tucked under his belt, wunderkind prodigy David Fincher became one of the most celebrated artists to scale the heights of Tinseltown during the late '90s and early 2000s. Although Fincher met with some derision early on, as the director of the critically excoriated Alien 3 in 1992, his work on Seven three years down the road won him critical approval and unanimous acceptance across the industry, and marked only the beginning of an influential, splashy career.

Without a doubt, Fincher is an amazingly suspenseful director who knows exactly how to tap into his audiences’ emotions. “Zodiac” initially oozes a gritty suspense that is inescapable and unique. Edwards leads a great cast of secondary characters that really fleshes out the background world out. And the murder scenes, Cecelia Ann Shepard’s in particular, are kinetic and viscerally disturbing. But as the character’s obsession begins, so too does Fincher’s obsession with facts, and as the shear volume and weight of it all exponentially grows, so too does your desire to regain feeling in your posterior.

Despite the bad entrance into the movie world, Fincher did not give up on his vision of filmmaking. He learned from his first experience to improve on future films. Indeed, he has succeeded, and today is one of the highly acclaimed directors of the young generation film genre.
