[T]here are those who don't like David Bowie at all. Take Steve Wynn, the singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist for the L.A. band The Dream Syndicate, for example. In the March 1983 issue of Sweet Potato, Wynn says, "Bowie's made some good records. He had some good costumes. He has good cheekbones.

The original album, Tin Machine (1989), was a success, holding the number three spot on the charts of the UK. Tin Machine launched its first world tour, featuring a now unshaven David Bowie and additional guitarist Eric Schermerhorn, that year. Despite the success of the Tin Machine venture, Bowie was mildly frustrated that many of his ideas were either rejected or changed by the band.

Last night DAVID BOWIE performed on The Late Night With Conan O'Brien Show on NBC TV in New York City. Wearing a grey suit jacket, black trousers, white shirt with undone tie, David and the band performed two numbers Slow Burn and Cactus.

The Low sessions ... formalised Bowie's three-phase approach to making albums that he still favours today. Much of the band were present for the first five days only, after which Eno, Alomar and Gardiner remained to play overdubs. By the time Bowie wrote and recorded the lyrics everybody but Visconti and studio engineers had departed.

It was now time for Bowie to change once more. He formed the band, Tin Machine, with American guitarist Reeves Gabrels, bassist Hunt Sales and brother Tony Sales on drums. They would release three alternative rock albums and then break up in 1993 without any real hits.

The Tao Jones Index was the name chosen by David and his band for two secret gigs. The first one at The Factory Studios in Ringsend, Dublin on May 17th 1997, which served as the warm up / rehearsal for his 1997 Earthling World Tour.
