Real Madrid won their first Spanish La Liga title in 3 years because of their superior head-to-head record against Barcelona, giving Beckham his first title since he joined Real Madrid. Initially out of favour with manager Fabio Capello, Beckham started only a few games at the beginning of the season, as Jose Antonio Reyes was normally preferred on the right wing. In the first nine matches Beckham started, Real lost seven.

Beckham wasn't finished. After intermission, he fed Landon Donovan with a sweet pass and the speedy striker scored on a low, hard shot to give the Galaxy an insurmountable lead. Sixteen minutes after the goal, Beckham left the game having tallied 63 minutes, a goal, an assist and a yellow card.

Beckham did not speak to reporters after the game, and his rep refused to comment on how Beckham felt about his own performance. The dad-of three is now expected to play on Sunday against Chicago as the league enters the playoff race, but Yallop said the decision would be made "Saturday or Sunday."
