A spirited child, Daveigh Chase longed to perform from a very early age and started dancing and singing in her hometown and other local areas at community events and shows. Inspired to become a performer after watching videos of Barney & Friends at age 4, she entered Little Miss America Pageant contest and ended up in being the winner of the national vocal competition. After the bright achievement, an agent signed her and by age 7, she had appeared in a Campbells Soup commercial. A year later, she scored even a bigger victory with her starring role in a musical theater production of “Utah,” playing a Mormon child. Scripted by prize-winning playwright Tim Slover, the play was regarded as “America’s Most Spectacular Outdoor Musical.”

Actress Daveigh Chase, 12, had to do some fast talking in the new movie Spirited Away. The dreamlike cartoon was originally made in Japanese. Daveigh did the voice of Chihiro in the English version. "One Japanese word can stand for a string of English words," Daveigh told TFK. "So I’d have to say a long line fast!"

Chase wanted to perform from a very early age and began singing and dancing in her hometown and other local areas at community events and shows. One of the factors which inspired her was watching videos of Barney & Friends when she was four years old. "I wanted to be like them, the kids on the video," she later said. Her father then entered her in a Little Miss America Pageant where Chase won the national vocal competition. Following her success, Chase was then signed by an agent who specialised in commercials and at the age of 7, she appeared in a Campbells Soup advertisement. In 1998, she landed a starring role as a child member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) in a musical theatre production called "Utah!".
