Dave Matthews Band in action at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne, Australia in 2005 Dave Matthews Band (... known by the acronym DMB) is a United States-based band, originally formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1991 by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Dave Matthews. Other band members include saxophonist LeRoi Moore, bassist Stefan Lessard, electric violinist Boyd Tinsley and drummer Carter Beauford. Since 1998 the band has performed most of their shows with keyboardist Butch Taylor who, while not officially named a member of the band, is a fixture on stage. For 2006 and 2007, the band added trumpet player Rashawn Ross — most noted as the live trumpet player for Soulive — to the stage. It is not yet known if his presence will be permanent. Moore, Beauford, Ross, Tinsley and Taylor also perform backup vocals.
Dave Matthews Band What sets the Dave Matthews Band apart from other jam-inclined festival veterans is the solid foundation of catchy songs upon which all their instrumental explorations lie. Fans appreciate the way Matthews' songs change from one performance to another, as he always infuses the hook-packed structure of their favorite songs with fresh improvisational jams. His heartfelt singing layers unpredictable (but memorable) melodies on top of bouncy chords that seem to fit together effortlessly - sort of like rubber jigsaw puzzle pieces. Matthews ... subtly incorporates some Latin rhythms and world fusion into his bouncy jam rock/pop, which gives his songs more sonic texture and extra dimension. With such elements at his disposal, Matthews and his band can confidently take risks playing live, which tends to make his performances (and bootlegs) a little more interesting than his polished and somewhat harmless studio recordings. 2003's Some Devil is Matthews' first solo outing.

Dave Matthews Band now has a significant chunk of their live catalog on the iTunes Music Store, rather than just the studio tracks that they've been offering since April of last year. They're sticking to their nationally-distributed live releases (Live at Red Rocks, Listener Supported, etc.), keeping their Live Trax series for sale on their site. The band has been enormously reluctant to sell digital audio through iTMS, preferring their own proprietary sales system through their website. Thanks to Dave F. for the tip.

Pat Green has toured with major artists including Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and the Dave Matthews Band, and has sold out his own headliner shows in venues such as the Houston Astrodome and Dallas' Smirnoff Center. A massive cult star in the Texas music industry for years, Green's new CD, Cannonball, has made him an emerging country superstar nationally.
