Dark Riders: Dark Elves

The Dark Elves are the best army in taking the battle to the enemy. Their Scouts and Dark Riders are a frontline problem right from the beginning of the turn 1. Harpies and Dark Pegasi and other cheap flying monsters are an excellent addition to all this. If facing other Elves or Humans, you can add Shadowblade to all of this, and ... there is a very real chance that you can tie up or destroy a substantial part of the enemy force on turn one. If this succeeds, you can use your own Repeater Bolt Throwers and other such attacks to soften the enemy before engaging them with your Cold Ones and Witch Elves. Having crippled the enemy missile forces and wizards with your lightning attack, the foe is at your mercy.

The Dark Elves worship 2 Gods: Aranea, Mistress of Spiders, and her consort Kargoth the Destroyer. Every 1,000 years, Aranea mates with Kargoth and shortly after that she devours him. A new Kargoth is then chosen from amongst the most powerful Dark Elven Sorcerors, and he ascends to Godhood for the next millenium until he too is used and then destroyed by his cruel Mistress.

The Dark Elves are the evil kin of the High Elves. They are masters of dark sorcery and arguably the cruellest race in the Warhammer World. Long ago they embraced the Dark Gods of Chaos and followed the path into darkness. From their black realm of Naggaroth, they send Dark Elf Warriors, Sorcerers and Assassins forth to spread their poisonous doctrines across the Warhammer World.

Khadgar (Mage), Turalyon (Paladin), Danath (mercenary Warrior), Alleria (Elven Ranger) and Kurdran (Gryphon Rider - Wildhammer dwarf) -- as part of the Expeditionary Force of the Alliance -- followed the Horde to Draenor through the Dark Portal. The Alliance was able to defeat the Orcish clans in Draenor. Ner'zhul fled away with his remaining forces, and decided to open many rifts as a form of escape. The rifts led to other worlds. However, the fabric of reality around Draenor was jeopardized with so many gateways open at once. The world of Draenor started to collapse under tremors, storms and earthquakes.

The 2003 UK Grand Tournament showcased some amazing armies, including Scott Goldstein's Dark Elves, known as Saldirmek's Soulcrushers. The army is a great example of how old and new models can work together to create a distinctive looking force.

Phoenix: The Phoenix, as deployed by the Dark Elves, is not a legendary monster. It’s pretty much a better looking Bat, apart from one singular ability. This Phoenix stays dead when killed, but while alive it can convert buildings. That can be so irritating to human opponents, that it’s almost always worth giving up a few precious slots in your army limit just to annoy them, or better still force them to put Towers next to every resource that they want to hang onto for any length of time.
