The Dardanelles are a seven-piece folk explosion from parts unknown. Their sound is a melange of Newfoundland, Irish, Cape Breton, African, Latin and Bluegrass styles combining to form a sound very much of their own. Featuring members of such groups as Hey Rosetta!, The Breadpicks, B'ys in the Shtetl and the Mark Belbin Quintet, The Dardanelles are sure to show that the classically trained can still give 'er.

The submarines in the Dardanelles were not capable of turning round the campaign. With so many men trapped on the beaches that were nearly impossible to move out of, the submarines could only play a small part in the disaster that was Gallipoli.
Winston Churchill's obsession with the Dardanelles had fatal consequences for many thousands of servicemen. Moreover it almost destroyed the career of the most influential British figure of this Century. Penn's latest work examines in depth an extraordinary and ill-matched politico/military relationship which was to have the most far-reaching results.
Emerging as a military hero at the Dardanelles in 1915, he became the charismatic leader of the Turkish national liberation struggle in 1919. He blazed across the world scene in the early 1920s as a triumphant commander who crushed the invaders of his country. Following a series of impressive victories against all odds, he led his nation to full independence. He put an end to the antiquated Ottoman dynasty whose tale had lasted more than six centuries - and created the Republic of Turkey in 1923, establishing a new government truly representative of the nation's will. As President for 15 years, until his death in 1938, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk introduced a broad range of swift and sweeping reforms - in the political, social, legal, economic, and cultural spheres - virtually unparalleled in any other country. Soon after this "Turkish massacre," General Sir Ian Hamilton of the British High Command in the Dardanelles campaign becomes somewhat baffled by the news of the disappearance of the special Royal Unit. When asked by Queen Alexandra about the outcome of the whereabouts of the Royal recruits, he can find no answers to give her Majesty. She in turn places repeated inquiries through the British Embassy in Istanbul. Still there is no satisfactory solution, and the matter is put aside.
