Danny Elfman

Danny Elfman is one of Hollywood's most talented score writers, with more than 100 movie soundtracks under his belt. His musical arrangements never fail to impress, and he has an almost mystical ability to match the mood of his music to the action on-screen -- particularly when he's working with filmmaker Tim Burton.

Danny Elfman and Tim Burton go together like Milk Duds and popcorn. But before Elfman was scoring movies for a grown up goth kid with his own production company, he was the leader of Oingo Boingo. What most of his fans don't know is that even Oingo Boingo was originally created for the sole purpose of a film soundtrack. Back in 1980, his brother Richard Elfman had made a film entitled The Forbidden Zone and had asked Danny to provide a soundtrack. He formed a band called the Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo just for that purpose. The band engendered a cult following of new wave kids and cranked out some successful albums before Tim Burton hired Elfman to score his 1985 film, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

"Danny Elfman has not removed his name from Nacho Libre. He elected not to take a "Music by" credit. Danny Elfman was brought in to do a replacement score for the film. The final mix of the movie includes about 2/3rds of the score Elfman composed with the other third comprised of music retained from the first score (composed by Beck) as well as other music. For this reason, Elfman chose not to take a "Music by" credit on the film or advertisements. Instead, he decided to take credit for the cues he composed in the End Titles to properly identify his contributions to the final film."

Danny Elfman is ... known for his pairing with director Sam Raimi, who directed the Spider Man series. Not all his scores are recognizable as “Danny Elfman” work. He has recently shown interest in rural American music. His score for The Gift, starring Cate Blanchett, barely resembles his other work. This is also the case with his work for the Cohen brothers’ film, A Perfect Plan.

At the Hollywood Online website, you can "listen in" on the upcoming original MIB soundtrack by Danny Elfman. The soundtrack includes a nice track titled "K Reminisces", taken from the scene where he punches up his "girlfriend" Elizabeth Ann Ruston on the computer (at MIB HQ).
