Daniel Johnston is the original outsider artist. Everyone will tell you the same; that his honesty and purity shine through the music. More than with any other artist you can actually see his soul as he lays it bare for all to see.
Daniel's Answer to the King by Briton Rivière, R.A. (1840-1920), 1890 (Manchester City Art Gallery) Daniel's ministry as a prophet began late in life. Whereas his early exploits were a matter of common knowledge within his community, these same events, with his pious reputation, serve as the basis for his prophetic ministry. The recognition for his prophetic message is that of other prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel whose backgrounds are the basis for their revelations. The time and circumstances of Daniel's death have not been recorded. However, Daniel was still alive in the third year of Cyrus according to the Tanakh (Daniel 10:1); and he would have been almost 100 years old at that point, having been brought to Babylon when he was in his teens, more than 80 years previously. He possibly died at Susa in Iran.
Daniel has shared the stage with dozens of accomplished musicians such as Mark O'Connor, Bela Fleck, Alasdair Fraser, The Moody Blues, Martin Hayes, The Battlefield Band, Bobby Hicks, Allison Krauss, Natalie MacMaster, Buddy Spicher, and many others. In a tribute to Roy Acuff, Daniel performed on the Grand Ole Opry with fiddling greats Vassar Clements and Aubrey Haynie. His performances ... include playing for the 1996 Summer Olympics and appearing on the Country Music Association Awards Show with the band, Alabama. For eight years, Daniel was a member of the Celtic band, Full Moon Ensemble. Their unique blend of Irish, Scottish, and early American music was heard across the United States and worldwide from Ontario, Canada, to the hills of Campbeltown, Scotland.
Born on July 8, 1965[2][3], Dr. Daniel Jackson is an only child and an orphan. His maternal grandfather and only living relative, Nick Ballard, lives on another planet with giant aliens ("Crystal Skull"). Daniel's parents, Melburn and Claire Jackson... archaeologists, were crushed while supervising the placement of a piece of Egyptian art in the Metropolitan Museum of Art ("The Gamekeeper"). His grandfather abandoned him after the funeral. Though placed in foster care, Jackson visited his grandfather in a mental institution until they had an argument over Daniel's failing career and Daniel left.
At the close of his three years of discipline and training in the royal schools, Daniel was distinguished for his proficiency in the "wisdom" of his day, and was brought out into public life. He soon became known for his skill in the interpretation of dreams (1:17; 2:14), and rose to the rank of governor of the province of Babylon, and became "chief of the governors" (Chaldean: Rab-signin) over all the wise men of Babylon. He made known and ... interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream; and many years afterwards, when he was now an old man, amid the alarm and consternation of the terrible night of Belshazzar's impious feast, he was called in at the instance of the queen-mother (perhaps Nitocris, the daughter of Nebuchadnezzar) to interpret the mysterious handwriting on the wall. He was rewarded with a purple robe and elevation to the rank of "third ruler." The place of "second ruler" was held by Belshazzar as associated with his father, Nabonidus, on the throne (5:16). Daniel interpreted the handwriting, and "in that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain."
