The family of deceased "Diff'rent Strokes" star Dana Plato has hit upon an odd way of honoring her memory. The Platos plan to turn the rundown Oklahoma trailer home where the actress was found dead of an overdose into a museum/restaurant, reports TV Guide Online. Tentative names for the creepy Tulsa-based eulogistic eatery include Dana's Place or Dana's Cafe, according to John Whitaker (aka Johnny Whitaker of "Family Affair" fame), Plato's manager at the time of her death.
Dana Plato led quite an interesting life, full of dizzying heights and shattering lows. She came to fame as a child star but found out soon enough that early fame often has its own pitfalls. Best known as Kimberly Drummond, the older sister on TV's "Diff'rent Strokes," Dana went through a lot while never quite escaping the scrutiny of the media and fans.
Dana Michelle Plato was born in Maywood, California on November 7, 1964. Her first excursion into the film world occurred when she was eleven in the television film "Beyond the Bermuda Triangle". Dana never really made an impact on the TV screen until she landed the part of Kimberly Drummond in the TV hit sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes" from1978-1984. After the series ended, Dana had a hard time trying to find other acting work. Sometimes she would surface in a made for TV movie or a low budget film for the silver screen. Times were rough. Her marriage to Lanny Lambert lasted a year, but produced a son. She was arrested in 1991 for robbing a video store in Las Vegas, but was placed on probation.
