Peter Hugh Aykroyd was born to Lorraine and Peter Aykroyd in Canada. He is the younger brother of comedian Dan Aykroyd. Along with his older brother he was in the Second City comedy troupe in Toronto, Ontario. The two were ... on the popular NBC sketch show Saturday Night Live. Peter was a cast member and writer from 1979-1980, the fifth season. He is also a song writer and performer.

In 1998, Aykroyd got a chance to stretch his vocal talents when the producers behind Antz called to say they wanted to use him in the animated feature. Hardly stopping to catch his breath, Aykroyd signed on for The House of Mirth. Shot in Glasgow, he starred opposite the X-Files' paranormal queen, Gillian Anderson. Two important milestones for him came in 2001. He co-starred in Curse of the Jade Scorpion and he announced his intention to retire from acting. Curse of the Jade Scorpion was a bit of a disappointment for movie-goers and fans of writer/director/actor Woody Allen.

With Toronto-based agency Diamond Estates, Aykroyd has his finger in those four southern Ontario wineries—EastDell Estates, Lakeview Cellars, Birchwood Estate and Thomas & Vaughan—plus a new one that is his namesake. The $12-million Dan Aykroyd Winery will be built where the Birchwood Estate is currently located. Groundbreaking is projected for this fall with the winery operational for the fall 2008 harvest.
