Damien Marley: Bob Marley
built 632 days ago
Twenty-five years after Bob Marley played at Rufaro Stadium for Zimbabwe’s independence celebrations Damien Marley, his son, has released a 12-track album that has a song blasting Robert Mugabe. In a collaboration with legendary US rapper NAS, the song entitled ‘Road to Zion’ accuses Mugabe of ‘holding guns to innocent bodies.’
Robert Nesta Marley (February 6, 1945 - May 11, 1981), better known as Bob Marley, was a singer, guitarist, songwriter from the ghettos of Jamaica. He is the best known reggae musician of all times, famous for popularising the genre outside of Jamaica. Much of his work deals with the struggles of the impoverished and/or powerless. He has been called the Charles Wesley of the Rastafarian faith for the way he spread Rastafari through his music.

Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley's last album, Half Way Tree, earned him a grammy in 2001. Many said that it would not be possible to top that effort. But, with production from his brother Stephen, himself and others and collaborations with Stephen, NAS, Bobby Brown (no Whitney), Buju Banton (aka Gargamel) blended with his unique style, young Marley seems set to explode with his latest effort.
Damian Marley: 'More Justice' The soon to be released "Africa Unite" documentary by Stephanie Black features a memorable performance by Damien Marley singing "More Justice" from his Grammy-winning major label debut, Halfway Tree. The song choice is an important one: unlike much of the concert's repertoire, it is an original song, not a Bob Marley cover, but in every way Jr. Gong's selection is an homage to his father.
Will it please the ear that has been consuming the listener of Bob Marley, or Reggae in general? That definitely is the question, as the commercial form of Reggae on this video incorporates elements often criticized by purists. It's a matter of taste, of course.
