As the son of a NASCAR legend, Dale Earnhardt Jr. had some pretty substantial shoes to fill after the tragic death of his father, Dale Earnhardt Sr., in the 2001 Daytona 500. No longer known as “Little E,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. has emerged from his father’s shadow to become one of the most successful and recognizable stars on the NASCAR circuit. Dale Earnhardt Jr. first found success in the NASCAR Busch Series before moving into the big leagues and winning the NASCAR Rookie of the Year Award in 2000 in the Winston/Nextel Cup Series. In the years that followed, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has continued to win races and new fans, especially with his emotional victory in the 2004 Daytona 500. His famous #8 Budweiser car is known the world over.

He began his professional career at the age of 17, competing in the Street Stock division at Concord (N.C.) Motorsport Park. Within two seasons, the young Earnhardt, Jr. had honed his driving abilities to the point of joining the Late Model Stock Car division. There, he developed an in-depth knowledge of chassis setup and car preparation, while racing against half-brother Kerry and sister Kelley Earnhardt-Elledge.

Earnhardt Jr. new show on XM Radio: NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. joins XM Satellite Radio for a weekly show to debut Feb. 13 during Daytona Speedweeks. The program will air on XM’s NASCAR Radio channel (144). Earnhardt will discuss the latest happenings on the NASCAR circuit, as well as music, video games and other personal interests. He will ... play a role in various XM promotions as part of a multi-year agreement with XM. "I love racing and I love XM, so I definitely couldn't pass up on an opportunity to combine the two. It's a perfect fit," Earnhardt said in a release.

Ralph Dale Earnhardt Jr. was born on October 10, 1974, in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Earnhardt's parents separated when he was a toddler, and, with his older sister Kelly, he went to live with their mother, Brenda. A few years later, their house burned down, and Brenda lacked the resources to care for her children. Dale Jr. and Kelly went to live with Dale Sr. and his new wife, Teresa, while Brenda moved away to Norfolk, Virginia.
