Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Cars
built 193 days ago
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is undergoing culture shock. At least, that's how he sees the learning experience he and his Dale Earnhardt Inc. team are undergoing with NASCAR's new car of tomorrow. "It reminds me of my rookie year in 2000, when we came from the Busch Series and all of a sudden we had to learn how to make a much different car do the things we liked or were used to before," Earnhardt said.
Earnhardt's close relationship with his cousin, car chief Tony Eury Jr., crew chief Tony Eury and his crew, was both a blessing and a curse. The continuation of his Busch Series success into Cup created an atmosphere that was too distracting and disruptive for the operation's success to continue.

Earnhardt Jr. had dealt all day with a wheel working loose, working toward the front with a car that at times was as fast as anything on the track. Even though he said it had been acting "weird" before the final restart, he'd had a couple of people look at it and convinced himself things would be OK. He was wrong.
