The Daily Show is a Peabody and Emmy Award-winning American satirical television program produced by and airing on Comedy Central. The half-hour long show premiered on Monday, July 22, 1996, and was hosted by Craig Kilborn, who acted as its anchorman. Kilborn left the show in 1998, and was replaced by Jon Stewart thereafter.

One of the prime forces behind The Daily Show and The Colbert Report has resigned. Comedy Central confirms that Ben Karlin, executive producer of both shows, is leaving although they don’t say why. Karlin got his start at The Onion while he was a student at The University of Wisconsin. He started writing for The Daily Show in 1999. Comedy Central says Karlin will remain as a consulting producer, with head writer David Javerbaum taking over as executive producer. Oddly, The Huffington Post reports, Javerbaum had just announced he was leaving The Daily Show.

The Daily Show tapes four new episodes a week, Monday through Thursday. The cast holds an afternoon rehearsal, then doors open to the public at 5:45PM. Attendees must be 18 years of age or older, and tickets are usually required to get in. However, there are sometimes leftover seats. Taping of the program begins in front of the audience at 6:30PM.

On the August 10, 2006 episode of The Daily Show, the space was presumably filled when Colbert made a surprise appearance. After arguing with John over whether or not Stewart should apologize to Geraldo Rivera for making fun of him on his show, an enraged Colbert said, "Then you're On Notice, John!" and amidst protests from Stewart told him to "DEAL WITH IT!" before storming off the set.
