The Daewoo Kalos is a subcompact automobile built by GM Daewoo, a South Korean subsidiary of General Motors. The above name is used for the original version of this car sold in its home market, but there are ... many other names under which versions of this vehicle are sold, which are listed. The Kalos is based on the "Kalso Dream" concept previewed at Frankfurt Motor Show in 2001, and was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Initial research and platform engineering work was carried out at Daewoo's (now disbanded) Worthing Technical Centre in the UK, with the bulk of the development programme being completed at Daewoo's main Technical Center at Bupyong in Korea.

Daewoo was a major South Korean automobile company founded in 1967. They produced small compact cars for a limited time before running into financial problems and going bankrupt. In their successful days, Daewoo was highly tied into the South Korean government both financially and politically. Currently, Daewoo is still active in different industries, but General Motors has bought much of their automobile divisions.

Instrumentation engineers from Daewoo Motors used a Campbell Scientific CR7 Measurement and Control System during hot and cold climate testing of the Nubira (pictured). In fact, the company is using a range of Campbell Scientific dataloggers. In addition to several CR7 systems (in use at sites in three continents), Daewoo uses CR10X dataloggers to monitor engine speed, vehicle speed, and temperatures on vehicles undergoing durability testing.

Daewoo regained its namesake to become Daewoo Motor in 1982. a few years after, in the 1990s, US carmaker General Motors Corp started accumulating shares in the company, until it eventually gained control of the Korean automaker. It was in 2001 that General Motors absorbed Daewoo and formed a new unit now known as GM Daewoo.

GM Daewoo Auto & Technology was founded in 1937 as National Motors in South Korea. After several name changes and buyouts throughout the decades, it entered a joint partnership with General Motors to create General Motors Korea around 1972. Later, the Daewoo Group took over the company in 1982 and the newly named Daewoo Motors began to sell its own brand and designs starting in 1996. Until that year, most Daewoos sold were rebadged GM vehicles. General Motors would later create the new company, GM Daewoo, in 2002 after Daewoo Motors ran into financial troubles.
