In Cologne (Köln), Max Ernst, Johannes Theodor Baargeld and Arp launched a controversial Dada exhibition in 1920 which focused on nonsense and anti-bourgeois sentiments. Cologne's Early Spring Exhibition was set up in a pub, and required that participants walk past urinals while being read lewd poetry by a woman in a communion dress. The police closed the exhibition on grounds of obscenity, but it was re-opened when the charges were dropped.[4]

Dada is the bare bones of performance, rather unstructured, probably only effective in a particular environment. Dada could work in the middle of the First World War, in a time of some madness, in the same way that absurdist theatre could thrive in the late-1950s. The extremes of Dada are acceptable in their place. But even in post-war Paris, Dada become too bleak and hopeless to work.

Dada à Paris is something else. It has become a classic, the unavoidable basic book because of its hundreds of unpublished documents, both original and copyright. It is the source book one must first acquire before starting a Dada collection of the many books on the market which reveal a marked preference for illustrations over text. However, even though its price is quite reasonable, some students will find it problematic to purchase the latest edition of Dada à Paris for themselves.

Due to the early overseas relocations of its manufacturing facilities, Dada came through the 1997-1998 economic crisis without any difficulties. Since it is ... involved in the production of handbags, sports bags and wallets, Dada has expanded its businesses and moved into a new 16 billion won ($13.1 million) headquarters in southern Seoul. In 2001, the company recorded $100 million in exports and a net profit of 5 billion won. "Reliable delivery and high quality are among the secrets to Dada's success," said the 57-year-old chairman.
