Cyclobenzaprine information Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) is a muscle relaxant used to treat muscle spasms and relieve pain, stiffness, and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, or injuries to your muscles. However, Cyclobenzaprine does not take the place of rest, exercise or physical therapy. Cyclobenzaprine works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) that are sent to your brain. Cyclobenzaprine is ... a drug treatment option for fibromyalgia symptoms.
Cyclobenzaprine is a member of the family of medications known as muscle relaxants. It is used in conjunction with rest and physical therapy for the relief of muscle spasm associated with acute (sudden and short-term) painful conditions. Muscle relaxants work in the central nervous system (CNS) to modify signals from the brain that cause the muscles to tighten. When used in combination with rest and physical therapy, muscle relaxants help to relieve the pain and stiffness caused by muscle spasm.
cyclobenzaprine Cyclobenzaprine may cause stomach upset, heartburn, constipation, headache, dizziness or drowsiness or dry mouth in the first few days as your body adjusts to theCyclobenzaprine medication. If these symptoms persist or become severe, notify your doctor. Inform your doctor if you develop: muscle stiffness, skin rash, itching, rapid heart rate, swelling of the face, difficulty urinating. When rising quickly from a sitting or lying position, dizziness or lightheadedness may occur. Change positions slowly and use caution on stairs. Avoid activities requiring alertness if dizziness or drowsiness occurs.
Cyclobenzaprine, closely related to the tricyclic antidepressants, causes the expected lethargy and anticholinergic side effects, and may have some toxicity in overdose and in combination with other substances. DESCRIPTION OF DEPARTMENT: The Care Management Department employs licensed MSW and BSW social workers as well as licensed Registered Nurses who are assigned to all inpatient medical and surgical units. Most units have a dyad team with a social worker and case manager who collaborate together to facilitate the progression of care and discharge planning needs in a timely manner. Patients, families, health care providers and or other concerned persons may request services. Hospital staff may make a referral via telephone, physician nursing orders, or call the social worker and or case manager directly. Messages may be left after hours at the department phone number.
No significant effect on plasma levels or bioavailability of Cyclobenzaprine HCl or aspirin was noted when single or multiple doses of the two drugs were administered concomitantly. Concomitant administration of Cyclobenzaprine HCl and naproxen or diflunisal was well tolerated with no reported unexpected adverse effects. However combination therapy of Cyclobenzaprine HCl with naproxen was associated with more side effects than therapy with naproxen alone, primarily in the form of drowsiness. No well-controlled studies have been performed to indicate that Cyclobenzaprine HCl enhances the clinical effect of aspirin or other analgesics, or whether analgesics enhance the clinical effect of Cyclobenzaprine HCl in acute musculoskeletal conditions.
